I'm going to give them away to people coming to our March coin show (put on by a local coin club). It's about a 25 table show that needs some new life.

Who would you give them to? I'm going to try and pick out newbies and youngsters to give them to but its not always easy to spot a newb.
I'm going to include a "compiments of the coin club" card in each with club meetings listed. With only 13, I want to give them to the right people. The last give-away was old used coin albums, most of which ended up in the trash. image

Anything else I can do to get new people in the club?

  • i'd put them out with a sign saying "free for youngsters". it's not as if any kid will be there alone, even if the parent picks it up for the child, the card with the message about the meetings will find it's mark.

even a newbie adult can or has picked up a redbook. kids like free things.

  • I would try and get the club members to kick in some nice shiney coins, proofs if possible and attach them to the book. Halfs or quarter because of the size and shine factor. Have the kids register for a drawing and give 1 away every half hour for six hours. The drawing purpose is to get name and addresses so you can later send them an invitation to attend a club meeting. If you get them to show up make sure to present them with another nice coin, maybe an older one. The meeting you invite them to make it for new collectors with classes and display of coins.
I would target kids up to say an some age or a slot of ages like 8 to 13. Don't forget your getting a 2 for 1 here, the child and an adult. Make sure your club has an adult must attend with a kid rule.
To me just giving them a price guide doesn't cut the mustard. Gotta give them something to look up in there, the more coins the better.
I could go on but I think you get the picture.

    just my 2 cents...
