1961 and 1962 Topps Stamps

I have uncovered a nice size group of these items. The POP on them is low. Before I send 50-100 off for grading, can anyone tell me if there just tough or that collectors just dont have much interest?

  • I just bought a 61 Mays from you for my player set!! I wouldn't mind finding the 62 Mays single and multi player stamps. I'm not sure about the stamp set itself-how popular, pops, etc.

I have at least 3 or 4 1962 Mays stamps. I'll look at them and see if there worthy of grading.
  • I would love to have a 61 Topps Stamps Early Wynn, and Joey (joe) Jay in PSA 8, 9, or 10.
  • Thanks, let me know if you think they'd grade. I'm really looking for 7 or 8...but would also go for a 6 if it still looks nice.

The main market for these is probably player collectors. Having said that, do you have a '62 Yaz there Bob?

I dont have them with me as I am way from home til Friday. I know I have all of them because they were in set blocks. The BIGGEST problem I can tell is centering. I have no clue how to grade these except to just pick out the ones that look centered and arent creased. I sent in 3 Mantles, 3 Aarons and 3 Mays. I got all 7's with the Mays, 1-8 and 2-7's with the Aaron, and 2-8's and 1-7 with the Mantle. I had 20 of each but the rest were junk. Way off or folded , just junk. There are about 50 more different that look like 7's or 8's, the 62's might even be worst if I remember correctly. I'll let ya know.

I have a set of both, minus the 1962 Sievers variaiton listed in the SCD Standard Catalog ( One KC/One Phils ). Can anyone confirm the actual existence of this variation. Mark Mosier at Columbia City Collectibles, who specializes in insert and test sets, told me he has never seen the variation either

I have a couple of those stamps, including an Al Kaline I just got back as a 9. The biggest factor in the grade is centering, followed closely by the surface of the back. Many of them often have snow on the front also... they deduct slightly for that.

I have it on very good authority that although the two Sievers have been listed in catalogs forever, there is only one variation. Once I found that out, I happily erased the second one from my wantlist. For the life of me I can't remember which one was bogus (I think the Phils).
  • The pairs look sharp too:

That Mays panel is nice... but in my experience with PSA grading these things, you would likely only get a 6 on it due to the L/R centering. Perhaps they may do something like 8OC or 9OC, but they are tough on the centering of these things, panels included.

I think the grading is a bit easier on the 1962's:

Always looking for 1957 Topps BB in PSA 9!
  • I have a bunch of these '61 & '62 stamps that I got from wax packs years ago. Most of them are single stamps that I tore apart from the panels, but I do have about 1/3 of them in panels. I haven't graded any yet because I'm confused about how a stamp from a torn apart stamp panel could possibly be graded NM or better since it is part of a destroyed panel. Why isn't the whole panel the important thing to get graded like with 1980-81 Topps basketball panels???

  • gaspipe, Both. Stars do well, commons not much interest. They are tough to get good grades in. My registry set has been slow going trying to find gradable examples. Thats why I want your commons. Guys with player sets like them also.
