buyer claims he entered the wrong amount?? twice??

Have another ebay question for ya.

Had a buyer email yesterday stating that he did bid that much on my item that he won (55 Topps AA PSA common). The card sold for $14.50. He claimed he only entered $6.01. He was outbid on my item and then re-bid on it. I didn't let him off the hook. He has 9 score feedback, so maybe he doesn't know what he is doing. He claimed that he must have entered $601.00. You have to confirm your bid, so I wasn't very sympathetic. I am holding him to the sale, he says he'll mail a money order. What would do you folks think? Should I have let him off the hook? ( I haven't at this time)

I dunno. I would wait and see if he pays. If so its a dead issue. If not file a NPBW to get your fees back and relist. This will count against him, but I wouldn't leave him a negative feedback. That seems like a reasonably fair solution.
  • i've had some funny claims from new ebay users, my thoughts 1)i think they get in over their head and bid on bunches of stuff and don't have any idea how to keep track of their bidding(haven't figured out my ebay)2)sometimes i think they are emailing the wrong seller 3)the obvious some are just DUMB.
  • You've been getting real winners lately King.
I would also wait to see if payment comes in. Not going to lose any sleep over $11.
If he doesn't pay; just file the NPB alert and just move on. I do find it hard to believe
that he missed it if he did type in 601.00. It is possible if he just typed in 601 without
the decimal point. In that case then it is 601.00 and he just flat out missed it on the confirmation
page. Either that or he's just a big flat liar.

It's also possible that he hit a comma rather than the period.

That will be ignored by ebay and lead to the $601 bid as well. If you don't catch it on the confirmation page, it's either time to retract a bid or to BOHICA.

  • I think you guys are right. I am not getting too worked up over it. This week just seemed to be the week that all the people were whining about the cheaper stuff. Hopefully he pays and that's the end of it. Maybe he messed up, I don't know. Sometimes I think that selling anything for under $20 on ebay isn't worth the hassle!! Problem is that I was trying to get rid of some cheap stuff to make some room and a small(Very small) profit.
