Hey Schmidt colletors, see this?

'72 Puerto Rican sticker PSA 7

There has always been a lot of discussion about this item on this board. Is $3200 about the going rate for a 7?

  • That's pretty darn cool!

  • I don't know anything about the set, but with 16 graded, and 3 PSA 7's out there, and 3 PSA 8's, and even one PSA 9, I don't see how this card could be worth more than $200 (tops).

This is just another example of $0.05 listing day.
  • raw versions of the schmidt sell well over $500. if you can find them for $200, put me down for 6

There are three 7s and three 8s? I thought you guys said that thing was rare.
  • In late December/early January, I purchased a really sharp, clear, GAI 8 for $1100 and then sold a PSA 5 for $850. The raw versions are hit or miss - I've purchased two (one was the PSA 5 and another I returned). Tough to see wrinkles and corners from a scan of this extremely thin card. I saw the 7 this morning and it looks really nice. There is also a GAI 7.5 on Mastronet right now, which I believe is our own mikeschmidt's (if you get a chance, take a look at his PSA 9 on the registry).

The card is worth way, way more than $200, but way, way less than $3,200. The pop report is extremely misleading. Nearly half have been graded at 7+, but in 30+ years, only 16 have been graded by PSA (and a couple others by GAI - I'm not sure about SGC, but I've never seen one). The fact that there are any of these things in such nice condition is amazing in that they were sold only in Puerto Rico and were designed to be glued into a book!

Although I don't necessarily think it is the best idea, I think we're going to see a lot of this $3,200 type of thing - the seller doesn't expect to sell it for $3,200, but is taking "offers" ....

There are only two PSA 7s. The GAI 7.5 used to be a PSA 7. I really thought that that card was an 8 - but neither PSA nor GAI agreed. The centering is just slightly, slightly off, I guess.

P.S. I believe that Levi sold one of his PSA 7s in the $700 range a few years ago.

Also - for what it is worth, I have not seen any of the PSA 8s traded publicly in the last 7 years. If they traded - I likely would have known. The GAI 8 is the best example to hit the market in the last 5 years, with the GAI 7.5 in Mastro's auction as a close second.

    Cheers-
