Talk about a piece o' crap holder ... the mylar (Saran wrap?) is bad but it also looks like the holder itself is a soft plastic better suited to hold an action figure.
Yuck. First thing I'd do is crack and send to PSA. I think they have a holder that fits those Mecca folders pretty well. And if they are out, they can do a better job with the mylar than that!
Oh my god! If that's what GAI is doing for "tall boy" grades, it's repulsive! I'd rather see them use one of those screwdowns with the rivets if they can't afford to make a real slab. Pitiful.
The PSA mylar looks terrible as well. I have a couple of T201s in mylar and I can't stand to look at them (although, from time to time, it is fun to shake the holder and watch, for example, Iron Man Joe McGinnity dance around). I've never seen a GAI holder like this one and, in fact, thought they cut the inside holder to fit the card - I guess they have had trouble with the big cards. I own 2 "off size" GAI cards - an '85 Schmidt mini and a '72 Schmidt sticker - that are in "regular" holders and were a HUGE improvement over the PSA/mylar holder that I had similar cards in.
I have a few graded cards that are obviously also inside pennysleeves inside their holder. Thought maybe it was an old practice that was stopped, as I wasn't necessarily active when the grading companies got going.
ebay:1967topps 1967and 1973 Topps baseball wantlists (any condition) welcome. Once had the #14 ATF 1967 set. Yet another collector like skylaneflyer, gimel1 who made it to the completion of 1967 only to need the money more than the company of 609 close friends. Looking for oddball Norm Cash and Cleon Jones stuff, and 1956 team cards
