  • All I can say is I have gone through a bit over 20,000 nickels and found 10 1940-S and 7 1941-S.

    Hope that helps.

If you're referring to decent 65/66 graded Jeffs with FS, I'd have to say the 41-S to be the more difficult to find, at least the prices for MS66 in FS bear this out. Average price for a 40-S in MS66 FS is around $220 and for a 41-S in MS66 FS is $500 to $800 or higher.
Everything starts and everything stops at precisely the right time for precisely the right reason.

neither one is easy and neither one shows up very often in the higher FS grades, MS65FS-66FS.

from playing the Jefferson game awhile, i really think the Mint should have taken lessons from the Denver guys. they seemed to have struck better nickels than the other Mints, at least until the dies started to fade in the lat 40's. oddly, when the Masters were redone in 1970-71 it was again the Denver issues which led the way. i wonder what's up with that??
