Was this a bargain, right price or did I overpay?

Saw this sweet PSA/DNA certified Elston Howard auto card on Ebay and was surprised at how low it was going for. Bid on it and won, even though I don't usually concentrate on auto stuff. Anyone have an opinion (or know, even better!) if this was as good a price as I thought? Or did I overpay? Either way, I'm glad to have it in my graded vintage Yankees collection.

  • I think someone wanted or got $300 for a ball before, so I would say it's probably a good price. Not too many of those around are there?
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!
  • SMR lists an Elston Howard autographed gum card at $100, but that's just a guide . Considering that '63 is his MVP year and that it's authenticated by the most respected name in the business, I'd say it's at least a slightly decent deal.

All and all, as a Yankee collector, I think you did OK - not a steal or anything but from my understanding, not an abundant auto compared to the Mick or DiMaggio.
    Congrats on a great auto.

Good deal, popular player, was a yank and red sox, and PSa/dna slabbed as a 6 not bad 'tall!

  • It does not matter how much you pay for something, if its what you want and your happy thats all that matters...
  • its a great card and a tuff autograph! enjoy it.
  • doog, you beat me out of that card. You got a good deal imo, he is a fairly tough auto to come by. In hind site I wish I was willing to bid a little higher but isn't that always the case. You got a nice addition to your collection congrats

Sorry for the delay in responding, but I wanted to make sure I had the card on my site. Elston Howard's autographs tend to either go for a ton of $, or for cheap, even if they are PSA/DNA certified. I picked up this card last year from a seller that deals in a lot of PSA/DNA certified cards, so I can't imagine it was overlooked:

For both autographs, I paid less than $120 if memory serves me correct. As far as Howards autographs go, I'd say anything close to SMR ($100) is a good buy.
    Who is Rober Maris?
  • Doog, because I had to settle for second best I picked up this distant runner up for less than half the price. Still I wish bid more image
