OK, here's an idea for handling ebay fraud problems

Since this is the biggest and most recognisable coin forum in the world, maybe the ANA could get a volunteer or appointed person to be present on these boards to take reports of ebay fraud violations and take them directly to the correct people for review on an expedited basis.

This would be a blessing for all concerned. The person complaining, ebay themselves, and the ANA in particular.

Then we could really make a concientious decision if ebay and the ANA are really serious about the problem!

Thanks, Ken

  • Well I hope to learn a bit from this thread, I know very little about that ANA, since I'm not a member. I do not really know if the ANA puts out a monthly newletter and or what benifits they can provide for me? So I will ask a couple of questions and hopefully learn a bit.

    1. Has ANA ever addressed a concern about fraudulant listings on EBAY, if so where have they stated this I would like to read up on it.
    2. Do they currently help collectors get compensated when they have been had, by fraudulent dealing with dealers.
    3. Have they ever helped a collector get compensated from a fraudulent EBAY/Or any other Auction Firm Listing.
    4. If yes to eaither 2 or 3, have they ever helped prosecute the violater.

    Thanks
    Ron

  • Who's going to police the ANA?

Ken- That's a great idea! Just to streamline it a little: How about PCGS in conjunction with the ANA put a link on the coin forum page
that takes you right to an ANA fraud report page. We just fill in the auction item number and whoever handles it at the ANA can just
check the form during the day.

It's a law enforcement issue, not an ANA, PNG, etc etc issue.

I will volunteer to be the ebay coin fraud czar. I will contact ebay with my salary requirements and report to the board when I hear back.

Are you going to deal with the Hong Kong police?

    Now that's an intelligent response.

So where's your intelligent response to handling the explosive fraud problem from China?

As I just posted in another thread:

I have a call in to the ANA, to see what, if anything, can be done.

If I hear anything worth repeating I will report back.image

    Hey Mark...If the phone don't ring, you'll know it's the ANA...image
  • imo, i feel a grass roots campaign targeting ebay's own reporting mechanism is the best way to actually make a dent in this issue.

why use a middle man such as the ANA to collect and verify reports on shady auctions? ebay has this feature,
direct link to report a Coin auction. and this forum has the power. (perhaps an "ebayed items" forum, to keep the clutter of the U.S. coin forum.)

an auction gets flagged here every day, if each person here who read the post and also felt the auction was fraud, *then* also reported that auction, rather than shaking their heads asking, "what will ebay ever do?", i think those highly reported and truly fraudulent auctions would float to the top of the pile on ebay's side.

someone suggested this before, and i agree. this forum collectively has tremendous knowledge and enough traffic to make ebay take note. i've seen auctions get pulled after being reported, it does happen.

I just spoke to an ANA representative and have the following to report:

When Ebay receives complaints, as in the case of this seller, those complaints are being forwarded to the ANA watchdog group - I can verify this because I just received confirmation that my most recent complaints were received at the ANA.

The ANA group reviews the complaints and then lets Ebay know what action should be taken, such as ending a listing or contacting winning bidders of items that have already been sold, etc. The ANA group is apparently making considerable progress, even though this particular Ebay seller has not been NARU'D by Ebay.

If you want to help, please continue to report listing violations to Ebay. Don't make accusations that can't be proved or make comments that might undermine your credibility - please stick with the facts and report actual violations to Ebay.

    Thanks!
  • ah! image great stuff.

so it seems the connections are all in place, the only thing missing is more reports from knowledgeable reporters to help the ANA separate the wheat from the chaff.

ttt- After thinking about this, wouldn't it be better to eliminate one step and send the reports right to the ANA?

MS70, we can't do that - for now, at least, the complaints must go to Ebay, which in turn forwards them to the ANA - sorry.
