1921-D VAM-1AU late die state?

Had to spend some time driving today for work. Found this at a small "collectibles" shop. The place only had six Morgans (four raw and two slabbed). I bought three of the raw ones.
Saw the die break in the date and thought it was a 1AS. Got back and checked some photos. The crack didn't match. Noticed a faint gouge on the reverse through the N in ONE. It matches the photo for the VAM 1AU.
My coin is full of cracks.... the date, right and left stars, and the reverse. One of the obverse cracks goes to the rim and leaves a large blob.
Do you think this is a later die state of the 1AU (or at least the description that I have)?

Looks like it. Nobody but John Kohut, the discoverer has that one.

BTW, 1AS and 6A are the same vam....the discovery coin I sent Leroy was VAM-6, but too worn to tell intitially.

No way?!?! I saw the I-2 R-6 on the listing. Figured it wasn't in big demand and there were many available. Didn't think it was a big deal, but really like the cracks.
Thanks for the info Jack. Leroy received a couple of my coins over the weekend. Anxious to get the results.
  • Nice find, I like thatimage

  • Yup. Looks like a late die state VAM-1AU. Congrats. Leroy's I and R values don't always match the populations or collecting prices. He does a great job but remember that is just his opinion. Great find.
