My wife sent me out on Saturday because she was planning a surprise BDay party for me. Since I already knew about it but did not want the friends and relatives to know i knew, I took the opportunity to go to my local coin shop and buy myself a little present. This coin has virtually no marks on the cheek and very clean fields. What do you think?

That's a very attractive 1904-O.
I'm guessing that it's a lock MS-65 and a shot MS-66 with that clean cheek and solid strike for the issue date/mm -- most of you know that I'm a pretty conservative grader...

You have a very good eye, and pick very lurstrous coins with super high eye appeal -- so whatever your strategy, I assume that it's been fun and successful for you!!

Apropos of the coin posse/aka caca: "The longer he spoke of his honor, the tighter I held to my purse."
The contact marks look very light in the photo so I'm thinking MS65 as we can see that it's nicely struck and lustre looks good too.
I recently bought a MS64 1901 - O for the same reason...my birthday.
Don't you wish they were all that nice and you could buy them for '04 O money? LOL
Nice buy! Pete
