let me ask you ccu what do you think of the new colonial coin registry set? >>
I think its too complicated.
I always wonder why it took so long for PCGS to introduce the colonial registry and now, seeing the number of different sets, subsets, etc., I can understand.
I'd like to have seen the overall Redbook set, and then subsets for a few of the significant series, like the Mass Silver, Nova Constellatio, etc. They have this, plus so many others that its overkill - does anyone really want to collect Vermont coppers by DATE? By type I can understand, but Date, I can't.
I am glad they got something going, and obviously you can ignore any set thats not of interest to you, but navigating the options is going to discourage some people, in my opinion. Such as myself.
I know very little about colonials, but when the registry was announced, I browsed over to it. I could not agree more with your (above) statement. Are there really people who collect all those different sets? I was expecting a major type set and perhaps another with more varieties. Frankly, I did not know what to expect. But jeez! It will be interesting to see a year or two from now how many collector sets are enrolled in these. Are any forum members participating?

as per the above i agree i hope they can at least add a basic type set
How it stays like that for 350 years is beyond me. >>
Its a nice piece, but only the skilled team over at NGC would ever call it mint state. They are definately a group of glass-half-full people. I like it as an AU50.
<< <i>what do you think this will sell for ccu this oak tree? >>
I would guess that its reserved for a hair less than the 24K+ it sold for at Hain in January, 2001.
If someone whose been around for a while buys it I would guess it'll sell for $24 - 27K. If new money is bidding it'll be 30K+ as an 'unc.'
The Noe 4 Oak Tree Shilling is, even in superior condition, not beautiful. They are rarely favored by type collectors and thus need to find buyers who collect by variety.

If you build it, they will come!

I would in a heart beat if I ever won the lottery. These coins have as much history associated with them as any that circulated in this country.
i hope pcgs takes this under advisement as it would benefit all

My theories anyway, we'll see if I'm right.
