There will be a Society of Silver Dollar Collectors meeting at the Baltimore Coin and Currency Convention on Saturday, March 12th. Open to everyone. Silver dollar variety enthusiasts will meet from 2PM to 3PM in Room 301. Rob Joyce will host, presenting some VAM attribution hints and sharing some new 1921 Morgan VAM information. Plenty of time will be reserved for show and tell (bring your new or favorite finds!) as well as VAM help where others can assist in identifying tough varieties. Yes, the SSDC was definitely missing in action for several years. About a year ago a push was started to reinvigorate it and its definitely an active club. There were 5 years of applications unacknowledged and checks uncashed! This has definitely changed. Membership rolls are now active, and it is possible to join and participate. There have been two major SSDC meetings in the past year: at ANA and FUN. There have been a few smaller, regional sessions (like this one coming up in Baltimore). One of the biggest things the SSDC is doing is the (about) weekly VAM-E newsletter that is emailed out. Right now, it is open to anyone, sometime this year I'm told it will be available only to SSDC members. The VAM-E is an edited compilation of questions, answers, and ideas about VAM collecting or silver dollars in general. If you want to receive this email, drop a note to baumgart@chicagonet.net. Emails are protected and will not be sold or used for solicitation.
