Large cent question

I recently bought some coins, including this large cent. The envelope says the coin is a N-33 variety with a R6 rating. The coin also has a lamination error on the reverse at about 5:00. Could someone let me know if this is indeed a rarer variety, and if so, what the approximate value of the coin is? Thank you in advance.

Speakin' of 1848 cents, here is one a local detecting buddy found on one of my sites. (Steve Smith, aka "Millennium" on the forums).

What really dunks my hat in the creek is that I had swung my own detector over that spot the night before, gotten an earblasting signal, assumed it was an aluminum can, and left it there. image

(Actually, there was an aluminum can there, but Steve dug it out and then found the large cent beneath it.)

  • The diagnostic features that would confirm it as being N-33 are too small to be seen in the photos. It might be possible to narrow it own to a group of varieties from thase pictures but that's all. It would have to be seen in person to do an accurate attribution. Bob Grellman (author of the standard reference) does offer an attribution service. I could get you his address if you are interested.
