Doubled die obverse on 1874 Indian cents?

I recently purchased an 1874 Indian in PCGS MS-62 BN that has rather obvious doubling on certain letters in "OF AMERICA." It's in a slab, so I can't get a real good picture (sorry). Does anyone know whether there is such a variety described in Breen or Snow (I don't have them on hand)? I don't think it's Snow-1 (slightly doubled LIBERTY).

rhedden - There is an 1874 DDO. (S-1 or FND-001) However the dbling is prominant in LIBERTY and the L (ingravers initial)as you noted. I do not know of any other 1874 varieties. If there is however I'm sure someone will chime in soon to let us know.

I just looked at both of my 1874's (64BN and 64RB) Just as Conder had suggested they both do show Longacre doubling in the points you mentioned in addition to:

On the 64 BN - you can see longacre dbling on most of the lettering of ONE CENT on the reverse.
On the 64 RB - you can see it on most of the Obv lettering (Except liberty and the L) and on the rev. just on the lower inside portion of E in cent.

Longacre dbling is very common on IHC's.

I hope this helps out some. Do a search on Longacre Doubling it may yeild some more info for ya.

Thanks. What I have is definitely Longacre doubling. I've never heard of it even after collecting for 25 years until now. I knew it wasn't a doubled die last night when I looked at it under a microscope because the letters aren't shifted, just recut. Oh well, I paid strong money for it on an impulse. The good news is that it's in an old green holder and has a realistic chance to upgrade 2 full points.
