Cent specialist - why such low value on 36 DDO #1

Just looking at the pop reports and the 36 ddo #1 is very low and yet a when you compare it to the 69 s ddo or even the 72 ddo, the value is very low. The doubling is strong. I don't get it. I'm also a bit bummed that the one I found in what I thought was an original roll was a cleaned coin (apparently most of the coins in the roll were cleaned). It is now in a NCS holder say improperly cleaned and unc detail.

It is a much needed coin in the PCGS Lincoln Cents with Varieties Circulation Strikes (1909-1958) REGISTRY SET.
There are just 33 certified in ALL grades by PCGS!
In fact, this has the ABSOLUTE LOWEST PCGS TOTAL POP of ANY coin required in this registry set - BAR NONE!
Just FYI: Other Doubled Die/Variety Total Pops Of Coins Required In This Registry Set Are:
1909-VDB (DDO) 41, 1917 (DDO) 42, 1922 No D Strong Reverse 1,960, 1941 (DDO) 59, 1943-D/D 100, 1944-D/S 135, 1955 (DDO) 2,104
I do think you might be surprised to know the values recently realized over the last year or two.
An MS64RB sold on Ebay by shortsleeved (Louis Mo) for around $3,550. He ripped it from DLRC for about $1,550 & got it to cross from an NGC holder at the same grade.
We made the following 4 coins as well as most of the VG-VF's in the pop report & about half the XF's:
The first AU coin, an AU55 sold on eBay in about 5 minutes for $1,250.
The second AU coin, an AU53 sold privately about a few weeks later for $1,250 also.
The XF45 sold for $499.99.
An XF40 sold a month or so later for $549 & a year or so earlier for $650 (same coin we repurchased from the same person we sold it to after providing them an upgrade to the AU53 for $1,250)
A VF35 sold for $299, a VF30 sold for $249, & a VF25 sold for $199, a some F12-15's sold for about $99-149 over the last year or so.
Granted it seems unappreciated in the lower grades but holds its' own as you approach the higher grades.
Just my 2 cents.
Edited to add: don't forget that the lone MS67RD went for OVER 30k last year at the St. Louis Silver Dollar Show and MS66RD's regularly go for over 10k.
Thanks!
Clakamas -(Brian) A 1917/1917 DDO will sell for between $15,000 to $20,000 in ms 65 red.I've been offered $200,000 for a 1969 DDO in ms 65 red.Where is the comparison ?
In my opinion a 1917 DDO and a 1936 DDO Type 1 should have the same value.I also see better doubling on the 1936 DDO Type 1 as compared to the 1917 DDO.

How about in lower grades... XF, AU? Or in my case, Unc details, improperly cleaned?

As usual I agree with EVERYTHING you say but this time, with the exception of
"A 1936 DDO Type 1 in ms 65 red will sell for $3,500"
I truly think the levels on these have snuck up significantly over the last year or so. As I mentioned, a 64RB sold on eBay for about that amount. I'd gladly pay $3,500 for as many 65RD's as I can get my hands on.

I guess it was a bad example, you are right they don't go for the same money. I was thinking of the 09-VDB DDO (TDO) which has an MS pop of 23 ($2500 in 65RD) , the 17 DDO has an MS pop of 18 ($20K in 65RD), and the 36 DDO has an MS pop of 16 ($3500 in 65RD). These all sell in seeminlgy different worlds.
I agree with you.Perhaps the 1936 DDO type 1 will catch up to the value of a 1917 DDO.
Windy City- I would hold on to the coin for a few years
I also believe in the future the values of double dies will be based on the amount of doubling as well as collectability.
The pop reports will take a back door.
IMHO, conservatively $3-4k
