P.S., "Ernie" uses a flatbed scanner to photograph his coins, giving the coins a lifeless look. I know this because I have a scanner that makes identical washed out images.

Exactly. Me too, in the past.
Ow.
That's worse than a staple scratch. Looks like a knife wound.
(Maybe the coin was dug by a detectorist, and it IS a knife wound. Sadly, that happens sometimes when you're diggin' 'em. I scratched the back of an otherwise-pretty 1913 Canadian large cent with my knife once. And I pulled a nice 1916-D Barber quarter out of the side of a hole I'd dug, only to gash its reverse on a buried rock.)
Speakin' of wounded 1807 DB halves, here's one I like very much. It's the latest upgrade to my vest. (Thanks, granddad. Where IS granddad these days?)
(Oh, and speakin' of Ernie, there's one thing you can't fault him for- he often has the nicest selection of holed coins of anybody out there, even if they are often overgraded and overpriced a bit. I have bought a couple nice ones from him for my vest and hat.)

what is this, 1807 half day?
Here's a slightly worse-for-wear 1807, but at least it's an R5
