  • Is it a bad thing to take them out of the plastic pouch? They still have the capsule....

  • I looked at the 1st 7 coins in the astrological set of the Australia coins today (Based on the chinese coins)...very sharp, but couldn't get the dealer down enough....maybe next time.....image
  • I have some that are not in the plastic pouch, but most of mine are still in the pouch and the capsule.

If you want the ones with the babies, these are the years that you are looking for:
    1983, 1984, 1985 - expensive and hard to find
    1993 - Proof
    1996 - BU strike
    2004 - BU strike
    2005 - BU strike

These are just the 1oz Panda coins. There are a couple of the 5oz coins that have mama/baby themes but they are almost impossible to find and will cost mucho bucks when you do find them.

((In case you are curious - I fell in love with the Pandas several years ago and have a complete 1oz BU/Proof set!)

  • Panda's are cool. I've started a set for my youngest grand-daughter, she is too little to appreciate them now but a few years down the road that will be a different story.

  • To answer Cherwood's question...

<< <i>Is it a bad thing to take them out of the plastic pouch? They still have the capsule.... >>

There is some debate on this subject... the outer plastic pouch actually contains some PVC (like all soft plastic) so if the inner capsule isn't good and tight, the coins can actually develop a light PVC haze over time. I have seen sheets of 1996 and 1997 silver pandas (doubled sealed in capsules and pouches) with PVC contamination. If you plan to keep the coin, I would recommend getting rid of the PVC pouch and carefully transferring the coin to an air-tite brand capsule which seals better than the mint capsule. On the other hand, some collectors believe that original mint packaging is more important (especially regarding resale value). So if you plan to sell your pandas later, you should probably leave them in the plastic pouch (even with the PVC risk).

I agree about some of the coins with animals.
I've got the silver 1 oz Australian Lunar series (for the kid and for myself...so, technically, I have 2 sets).
Have a few of the gold 1 oz (I had to scan them as I keep them in the bank @ the SDB) including my icon coin and the horse and dragon. The dragon is very popular but is too much of a "busy" design for me to like overly much. The horse, my son's birthyear, is very cool looking. Glad I bought it when I did (when it first came out).

I've thought about getting the pandas, some look very nice, but I can only buy so much bullion image and modern crap bullion at that imageimage

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
