So I sent off a package to PCGS

And after 3 weeks of waiting and watching to see if the submissions are received, I get them back today, in a crushed box stamped, "Refused. Return to Sender" Looks like the box got ran over image Luckily, they were wrapped up tight in Saflips, inside a 6x9 padded and then in the box. Now I gotta resend em. Gotta love the postal service.

    Talk about "Body Bags".

I assume you sent the package Registered Mail ?

Yup, registered and insured.....all intact, although the inner padded envelope was opened.

Did you ask the USPS how that happened? There should be no way a Registered can get crushed like that... but why was it refused?

Only reason I can think it was refused was because it was busted half open.

Get an explanation from your postmaster for that

It was probably refused by PCGS after seeing the damage done to the box........that way IF there was any damage the USPS would have to assume all the liability.......

  • I would think that you could take your registered receipt along with the package to your postmaster and get some kind of satisfactory relief. There should be no way for a registered package to have that level of damage. I would sure as heck give it a shot if I were in your position.

  • Obviously that package was rifled (inner envelope opened)...then outer box crushed to cover up rifling. I know its a pain in the arse but I would take it to the postmaster and show him. Registered mail is supposed to be closely guarded...thats why you pay for it.....and you can give the postmaster a heads up on a thief in their midst. Suppossedly whoever handles the package along the way has to sign for it and he may be able to narrow it down. The blessing is you still have your coins...Mike

Are you sure it was sent registered. First, the post office is not suppose to accept padded envelopes for registered mail.
Secondly, if registered, then this package was not handled properly as it supposed to be handed/ signed and verified not to be tampered with from person to person through its entire journey.

I agree, PCGS probably saw the damaged/opened packaging, and refuse to accept it due to liability and being thier problem.
