Darryl Strawberry

He'll be joining the Mets temporarily as a special instructor during spring training. Who would've thunk it?

Special instructor of what? How to ruin your career in no time flat?

  • Special instructor, you know:

*Where to get the best cocaine for the money in NYC

    *Best motels for hookers

*How to drive a Porsche when loaded

*finding lawyers who specialize in representing overpaid playboys who can't stay out of trouble

    *posing for mugshots

he could be quite beneficial to all those rookies comin' into the big city!

  • Sad because Strawberry and Gooden were SO DAMN GOOD back in the mid 80's.....
  • Happy birthday Darryl!

I saw him recently at a local breakfast joint.

As my kids and I were walking out I said hello to him. He acknowledged me and began talking to my kids. He's a friendly guy and I appreciated him taking the time to talk to us.

You're not the first poster to have an experience like that. Someone, a while back, saw him at an airport I think I he was quite conversational and even asked if they wanted to take a pic with him

Couldn't tell you why but I've always liked Darryl.

Cheered his achievements and sympathized with his struggles.

I can't say that for almost all athletes who go astray.

Oh what might have been? But he was still a heck of a player in his prime, even with performance decreasing drugs. Imagine if he and Gooden had decided to take steroids and HGH instead of Coca Cola... that should be a Marvel Comics ”What if?”
