Coin Photography setup....sigh..

REALGATORREALGATOR Posts: 2,622 ✭✭✭✭✭
I know this has been discussed a bunch on the forum but does someone have a photo of their
coin photography set-up? ie. showing the camera, tripod, lighting, coin, etc....

There have been so many descriptions but, well, you know a picture is worth.....

A photo of the set up and an end result example along with descriptions of the settings used would be interesting.

Thanks.

  • Hello, enter that question in the search feature, you should get several hits.
  • I use a couple of lamps I find around the house and I play around with them until I have the lighting I like then I take the photo on the floor without a tripod. I usually improvise and have no elaborate setup.

    That's the Nikon 8800.

As a matter of fact, I discovered that this stand wasn't going to really support the D70 correctly, so I've ordered a heavier duty stand. Probably going to sell the Testrite with the flexible arms.

  • I'd show you a picture of me holding a coin slab in one hand under a $5 gooseneck lamp and the camera in the other hand, but I wouldn't want to show Eric up.

Well, pharmer, that would explain the poor picture quality you have then, wouldn't it?image
  • hey, I resemble that remark. Really, this isn't bad for hand held photography...

Your right it has been discussed before and I'm still trying to do it myself from all the tips sent in so far. I just spent a few hours trying and noticed no to use a black bubbly background. White background appears to be the best so far. Lighting is killing me. I can't get rid of the glare. I've even tried 1A, !b, grey, polarizing filters and still glare. Must be in the lighting. I don't want to make a complicated setup like the one someone sent in. I'd need a separate house for that. Do as I'm doing. Keep asking questions and try, try, try, try

  • Glenn, your results are quite good. No, my images suck, I just do it the fastest way I can, so to share, as it were. But thanks for the tip, setting the camera down just might improve the image, you think? And I need to stop balancing on one leg when i do it.

    Ok, Hello World!

K6AZ, thanks for the great examples. The lighting is the trickiest part of getting the right shot and now I see how its done.

    Thanks again....REALGATOR
