Here's pics of Monday's detector outing. I think it got up to 70 or so here. It was a gorgeous day.

You can tell that Indian had at least AU details when it hit the dirt a century ago. I'll bet it was a nice Red beauty. Bear in mind that these pictures show it exactly as it came out of the ground... uncleaned, except for a warm water rinse-n'-rub!

Dude, that penny is all bumpy. How did you dig the Van out of the ground? It's in great condition, did you have grading vehicles handy?

I posted the van pic so everyone who has called me "lordminivan" over the years can see that Lord Marco's van is NOT, in fact, a minivan.

Go ahead. Ridicule my penny for havin' some lumps.

Yeah, she has a little acne, so what? Still pretty damn nice for a dug example, you gotta admit! And those are the uncleaned pics!

Compare it to some others I've found... image

  • Very nice find, I wonder who lost it?

  • 70 degrees? I just cleared three feet of snow out of my driveway.
That's a nice find. I might have to sell some of my worn Morgan and Peace dollars to get a detector. A friend of mine is in the process of moving an 18th century school house. I think it would be a great place to check out (when the snow is gone and the ground isn't frozen).
  • It is so neat to see something found after all those years buried beneath the soil. Makes you wonder who dropped it and when. That is a nice find if I may say so. I used to have a detector as a kid. Not high quality but I used to make my rounds around my old elementary school built in 1890 in N.J. I found all sorts of stuff and I'm sure there is more beneathe the surface than we realise.image
