1958 mint set: Is this good toning or bad toning?

The P set (left) quarter and the Franklins are turning a goldish color. The dime is just turning weird colors, plus it looks like it has a die crack or strike through from "OF" to the "A" in America. The D set (right) the nickels are ever so slightly turning blue/gold.

Not knowing anything about toning, is this an example of good toning or bad toning?
Thanks for your help,

Glenn

  • I think the market would like it, and the other sides are surely toned. Do you own this, or thinking about bidding? If I was looking for a toned mint set, this would seem to fit the bill.

  • I would say that's typical toning.....I don't particularly care for it, but the coins may look better in hand. There is something to be said about originality though image
  • Based on the photography I'd say they look pretty. All the coins appear pretty nice. The Frankie on the right looks kind of odd(?), is that a shadow.

I agree. It's mostly typical given from what I see in the pictures.

The only piece that might be at all special is the half dollar in the lower right hand corner. That might have some nice blue tints, but I can't tell that much from the picture.

I own several mint sets that are original.

This toning appears to be original also.

Not quite to my liking. There are nicer toned sets to be had for a small premium if you look hard enough.

  • It is my set. The Frankie on the right has 2 dark spots on it. The big one and another by the "F" in half. Maybe something dripped on it. The nickel to the right of it is turning very blue in front of Jeff's face, eye & on his neck. I can't get a good picture of it.
