PM and ttt?????????

What feels like a thousand messages ago I received answers to waht is PM and ttt. I must be getting really old. What do I do with the PM thing on the site for buying and selling coins? How does it work? What does lock on symbol button mean? How do I use this to communicate with the seller? I moved the mouse to everything and pressed everything and nothing happens. Also, I still don't get the ttt. What does "to the top" really mean? Who goes to the top? Why isthis used? Am I that old that I just don't understand or is there a coin dictionary out there somewhere? By the way how much does it cost to have a coin sent to PCGS? Are there instructions somewhere as to how to send coins in for grading?

To the top puts a tread back to the top of the first page on the forum. Also every message does this.

    BTW TTT
  • I can field a few of these.

'ttt' does, indeed, mean 'to the top'. Board members use it when a thread has had no replies, and somebody (e.g. the originator of the thread or somebody very interested in it) wants it to be seen by other board members. I've noticed that 'ttt' often serves to bring a thread to the attention of people who tend to view the board at differing times of the day -- me, for example (I tend to look at the board in the mornings, or sometimes on break at work image ).

As regards PM, I'll let others explain that, but the key is to turn the PM on in your profile.

As regards PCGS, you need to be a member there to submit, yes that is true. Other top slab companies do not require that. ANACS for instance.

  • Dennis is right -- simply replying sends the thread back to the top. 'ttt' seems to be shorthand for 'All I want to do is send it to the top -- I don't have anything to say, really.'

OK Doug, but what do I do now? Where is the PM? How do I open it?
How do I find it? This is what's driving me nuts. Not just what it means, but what do I do to get it or send it? Where is the PM? I'm lost or just to old.

  • First, log in. Lots of other features appear. Go to your profile, turn on pm function. Message indicator is top of screen left, say no message or 1 message, click on that takes you to pm functions screen.

  • To be accurate, once you are in your profile, the line says Allow Private Messages, click yes. Then you will the private message alert on the main screen upper left.

Wow again and thanks millions. I just found out how to do this PM stuff thanks to you. Amazing thing was when I went there I found messages from 2001. I must have asked the same question then and instead of explaining as you did, they just sent me a PM. This may be fun. I'll have to ask people to send me a PM just to keep in practice. One more question though. If I want to buy something and they say to PM me, how do I send them a PM? Is it the same as me receiving one? Is the purpose to keep email addresses private? What other purpose is the PM for? Home addresses? Phone No's?

  • Carl, the forum name of a person is what you put in the box as the address for a person. If I want to send you a pm, I put carl in the box, push send pm, and a blank screen appears where you write the message, and lower left of that screen says send. If you want to keep correspondence going on a topic with someone back and forth, hit view history, you will see their screen name and a list of the pm's sent and received by you will appear.
