64 Roosevelt Proof marred in original packing.

And by the way, hello all, as a brand spanking new member I would like to solicit your opinion on the following;
I just opened up a 1964 proof set in the original envelope as was agast to find something that looks like
paint on the dime. It is definitely inside the packing. Please advise.

    image to the forum and good morning. Yep, that looks like paint. They must have been painting the dime room that day. image I have a 64 mint set with the Kennedy half that has a flattened nose tip. Looks awful but interesting at the same time.

    Welcome to the forums USC.image
    Your proof dime has what is called a "glue spot". It is caused from the planchet being improperly rinsed during the planchet washing process at the US Mint. There is no way of removing it without damaging the dime.

    I bought a nice set with a Frankie toned up and pretty........however it was skanked with that type of spot. so its a glue spot. I tried everything to remove it........nothing touched it...........nothing. but it is no longer toned.
    Family, kids, coins, sports (playing not watching), jet skiing, wakeboarding, Big Air....no one ever got hurt in the air....its the sudden stop that hurts. I hate Hurricane Sandy. I hate FEMA and i hate the blasted insurance companies.
  • Thanks for the hearty welcome! Glue eh? I noticed a small spot on the 62 proof set dime I just opened. Looks like the same glue.
    Oh well...
