basketball lagging baseball

How come all the hot new trends in baseball hobby doesn't apply to basketball ? like all the "cut autograph" and all the legend game-used stuff...I am kinda sick of all the modern auto and game-used of lebron and kobe, how come something from the old days? i understand that basketball doesn't have as rich history as baseball but there are still a lot they can do. For some reason I always think that basketball hobby doesn't have as much adoration and respect as baseball for the old heros in the past. Maybe the past fans believe that old baseball greats would be just as good in today's game whereas the earliest basketball pioneers the fans believe they probably suck compare to today's game. Any other thoughs?

  • The NBA actively markets itself as the sport of hip-hop culture, urban and modern themes. They have no sense of history; it's all about who's hot now. The average 15-year old fan/collector has no idea who Bob Cousey is.
  • I agree with the sense of history angle. The NBA has lost its way and will never be what it once was. Not saying
it will go the way of hockey but it's best days are behind it.
  • In the LA area, Basketball is #2 behind baseball now, having ousted football. I collect the big 4, but I think that the hockey is always 4th and the other 2nd and 3rd spots rotate.
