The first coin is the VAM 79 1878 I found the other day. The second coin is 1900-P VAM 18 in MS61 or 2. Nice coin for the money. The third coin is an 1878-P 8TF that I need help with. I have it pinpointed down to either VAM 7 or VAM 14-5. Can someone assist me please? If it turns out to be VAM 7, can you tell me how much more common it is? Rarity? Waste of money or good to have? Any premium? I tried to take good scans of the diagnostic areas. If you need another scan of another area, please let me know.

Other VAMs I found that are not pictured are a circulated VAM 12 1888-P and an 1890-O VAM 10 Comet variety.

Thanks, Richard.

This has been a great VAM nightimage

It sure looks like a 7 to me, is the center of E in ONE filled? It sure looks like the spiked A picture in the book.

By the way image and thanks for sharing!!

  • Richard,

I got your PM. Looking at your pictures and the description of the v14.5, I don't believe there is a match there. v14.5 states the obverse is over polished on the nostril and yours doesn't appear to be. So that leaves v7. Good find! image

I picked me up a v79 off of Heritage last week, PCGS63. . .should be here tomorrow.image
