  • Glad that you're ok image
  • Quake proof only means the house won't fall down, it won't stop the shaking. Where are you?
  • Blytheville, AR. still waiting for aftershock, This one was 22 miles WSW of me and 15 miles deep.... Gonna wait to resort the coins, 4 hours to go thru all those friggin peseta's.....image
  • Glenn, you must be near Benton or Conway? I live right on the New Madrid Fault, This one was between Blytheville And Jonesboro.Linky

New Madrid fault is a nasty one. Only goes off every couple hundred years, but when it does. BAMMO.

  • The 8.3 was in 1811 or something, right? I guess we are due! image

Today, I would think an 8.3 would flatten KC and St Louis!! (or at least the older buildings there).

  • I read a letter from 1811-1812 that said the ground was in continous motion for a year and that the air was filled with a dark sulphorus fog, that was when the Mississippi river was suppose to have run backwards for 3 day's. I keep a watch on the CERI Center for Earthquake Research Institute page, at first the one this morning was listed as 3.9 then it was upgraded to a 4.1, Shook us pretty hard. But I had just gone thru a mix of 1957 5 and 25 peseta coins and had them stacked into categories of the worthwhile and not so worthwhile, Now i will have to go back thru them again, about 500
of them. Such is life, Hard to expect the unexpected............

    "Shook us pretty hard."

A 4.1 is nothing, I was 15 miles from the epicenter of the 7.2 that hit San Francisco in 1989, that shook us pretty good; the 5.0+ aftershocks were small knocks by comparison.

Biggest I was ever in was in the Bay Area. A 5.7 buty it lasted only a couple of seconds.

    Absolutely frightening event! image

On the plus side, it doesn't sound like you had any major damage just a major irritation!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    Meh, 4.1. I wouldn't even get out of bed for a 4.1.

    In California I don't think anybody notices a 4.1

  • Jonesboro News KAIT Channel 8 at noon said it was 4.5? Said it was even felt in Memphis.... Doesn't matter, I'm moving soon, Getting cool tax free check tomorrow..... 5 figs and a vacation............. Got no worries..........image
  • If you are right on top of a 4.1 it can shake pretty much. It also depends on the type of ground you are on.

I was about 25 miles from the '89 Loma Prieta quake. The radio was on. People would call in aftershocks. First you would get the calls from Los Gatos, then Mtn View, then Redwood City and on up. There was a 4.1 two days ago about 25 miles east of here. Almost nobody lives between here and there so nobody reported feeling that one.

It sounds like a great time for a vacation ozzysdad, congrats on the check and have a great time.
