Got My PCGS Submission Grades Back

In an earlier thread I stated that I had submitted 13 gold coins to PCGS for grading. Some were raw, some were crossovers and some were regrades. Here are the results.

21873798...$10.00 Indian......1932........Raw........Cleaning-N2, Body Bag.....Looked like a 62/63 to me...off to NGC?
21873844...$5.00 Indian........1909-d.....MS62......ANACS bust out, was MS62...even+
21873845...$5.00 Coronet......1899.......MS62......ANACS bust out, was MS60....+2!!!!
21873846...$3.00 Indian.........1874.......AU58......PCGS bust out, was AU58......even

21873837...$1.00 Indian Type ll 1854....MS62.."OLD"PCGS bust out, was AU58...+4....I hit the Jackpot on this one!!
21873836...$1.00 Coronet........1853.....Raw.......................................MS62...Bought as MS60

Well this was my first set of submissions and I feel pretty good. Sort of a mixed bag, with particular interest being the way the ANACS bust outs went and the Major step up on The PCGS 1854 TypeII...according to the "Coin Values" price guide a retail change from about a $1500.00 piece to $6500.00!!!! That alone was worth it all........Mike

    Nice going, that's like a 5000 bump on the 1854 t-2 isn't it, good eyeimage---------------BigE
    I'm glad I am a Tree
  • I've heard that ANACS grades low on their gold. I've got an 1889 $3 Gold in ANACS MS61. Sounds like I need to cross it over for a bump.

Looks like you did alright. I just received my own submissions back. My PCGS dealer sent them in for me. We have a lot of fun kidding around. When I walked in to pick them up, he said he had "good news and bad news". He went on to say, "The good news is the five coins are back, the bad news is that one was body bagged for having been cleaned, 3 were MS60's and one was a MS62!" I became instantly aggravated as I have several MS64's off Ebay that weren't as nice as ANY of the 5 Morgan dollars I'd submitted and I was certain that none had been cleaned.
Needless to say, I was well pleased with the following:
1879 S MS65 (bought raw at MS63 money, but always thought it was better than that).
1880 S MS65 (bought in an NGC holder @ MS64 but thought it might grade up. I took it out of the NGC holder to put it in an album and then thought better of it after a while.)
1888 P MS65 (one I bought years ago (25 or more?) as an MS65 raw. It has long been one of my better satin lustre dollars - took it out of my raw year album thinking it was too nice to stay there, it's now part of my certified year set)
1898 O MS65 (One I also took from a NGC MS64 holder, but it was ugly toned on the obverse so I dipped it and it came alive!)
1904 O MS65 (This was one of my favorites for a long time and I always considered it a PL coin, but only a strong MS64. It didn't get the PL, but having it as a MS65 makes up for that. Guess it's just a strong semi PL now <grin> I bought this coin off a bid board from the same PCGS dealer almost 30 years ago for $15).
I hope this post wasn't too long for the forum.
    Best wishes to all, Pete
