Big time Ebay Scam WARNING...someone tried to hijack my auction with 2nd chance offers...

I just completed an auction last week for a rare 1878 8TF Vam 14.5 on Ebay. I just got an email from one of the underbidders saying that he had received a 2nd chance offer from Ebay for this coin. He's just the first I have heard from but I suspect that there will be others. He copied the email to me and it looks like someone was using a hijacked account to send this message. Here is what it stated:

PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS MESSAGE, CONTACT THE SELLER DIRECTLY : NAHORIRIA@AOL.COM eBay sent this email to you because your Notification Preferences indicate that you want to receive Second Chance Offer Notices. That is not my email address obviously and there was no 2nd chance offer made. Fortunately, many of the vam collectors know each other and I knew most of the people who bidded on this auction and they know me. Under other circumstances I don't know how many people would fall for this. I did have a brief email exchange with this joker:

My email:

> > Next time you decide to pull this kind of a scam better pick an auction
> > where the bidders and seller don't know each other. The 2nd high bidder
> > reported you to me and now I've reported you to Ebay. Have a nice day image

His reply:

> > wow, you're smart :->

My reply:

>> Obviously smarter than you image

His reply:

>> you think so?
>> hmm... I wonder which one of us is making more money using eBay dot com.
>> Just think about it.... dude (*_=)

Someone needs to find that smug arrogant punk and open a can of whoop arse on him.

Report him to the IRS for tax evasion.

The police have no time for frauds below $10,000. But the IRS will want their money!

  • Have you reported this joker to AOL? It might not accomplish anything, but it would be worth the try. Maybe he would lose his AOL account.

  • I haven't yet but I suspect its probably a temporary one. AOL accounts are very easy to get for a short time.

One of my underbidders fell for the scam. I got an eMail out of the blue about two weeks after an auction ended wanting to know if the coin had been shipped. It wasn't the winning bidder, so I eMailed back and asked what he was talking about. He said he got a second chance offer from a "Gary" out of the UK. He paid him. Western Union. It was a big chunk of change, too.

AOL keeps records, like the number dialing in for instance. If they police wanted to, they could subpoena this information.

There seem to be several fake second chance offers going around now. I received two from a guy in Singapore. I told him where to go and reported it to ebay. He had 3 accounts that were pulled. I'm sure he will come back again.

I agree it's a big problem now on EBAY......I get two to three second chance offers per week of which 98% have been fake !!image

  • I have been getting second chance offers from different people for the same item – retarded scammers.

My advice for eBay sellers is to add a few lines in every auction stating that YOU DO NOT MAKE SECOND CHANCE OFFERS AND THAT ANY OFFERS THAT THEY RECEIVE SHOULD BE REPORTED TO EBAY.

That way you can protect your customers as well as yourself.
