What's this "orange peel" like skin on my halves?

i've run across a roll of '83 '84 halves that have an orange peel like skin on them. i swear beneath that skin these coins appear to be mint. anybody know what that is? early stages of toning? i've had limited success taking pics. these coins had been in the bank vault, no telling for how long. my bank tells me they when they get in halves they have to accumulate 1000 of them before they can send them in, so they just sit there for probably months/years?
thanks in advance guys/gals!

Without a pic, I would be inclined to say toning......wonder what they were stored in?

    btw...nice sig line image

  • thanks Boch! they came to me in paper wrappers. looks like Coke was spilled on em and allowed to dry. i haven't tried to get it off. if it is toning do i put them back in the wrapper or is it too late?

If the coke spill seeped through, it may be "environmental damage".
Is it actually toning or is it a foreign substance?

Bumping so others may take a look.
