Stop drinking and the coin returns to focus.

I used a lot of compression on that image. The raw image files were right on. Probably going to have to make it smaller.

I think the photos were great. Was that done with a digital camera?

Yes, with a Nikon D70. I should also point out that this holder is cloudy, which could account for some of the fuzziness as well.

I certainly hope you are not trying to compare Mercury dimes to Kennedy halves! image
  • Eric, looks like you got that D70 tweaked in pretty well.

    Nice picimage

Thanks Herb. I've only shot a few coins other than Morgans, and if I had more here I could do some experimenting. I'll tell you what though, it sure has a steep learning curve.

NICE PICTURE !! It would be nice if my camera could get shots like that. It Looks Real....image

Thanks. Do one every once in awhile.

  • Jpeg compression just killed those first images. The resolution just goes down the toilet. I know they take longer to download, but these markedly reduced images just arent getting the job done. The second one you posted is better. And just as an aside, which image is "easier" to look at, the compressed one or the uncompressed image I've posted?

Thanks Ken. The 44 is in an old PCGS rattle holder, MS65. It is really "dripping with luster". I snagged it on eBay a couple of years ago for $18, the seller had a scan where you couldn't make anything out. The 1940 is a PCGS MS66 (no bands).

You're comparing apples and oranges. Try doing an image of a MS Mercury in the holder sometime.

As far as compression, I'm not a bandwidth hog and there is no way I'm going to post 700x700 images that are 700k.

Agreed, the subject matter is more difficult, although that cent was in a holder, and I'm no expert in pics.

And you're still comparing apples to oranges. OK, here, top this picture.

And the purpose of that is?

It doesn't look as good as the original. There was nothing wrong with the original.
