copper coins in old holder

A recent thread dealt with this topic. An old generation slab houses a rd or a rb copper. Why do these holders attest to the stability of a coin's color?

The theory would be that the coin has been housed in the holder for a considerable length of time and if it has not already mellowed in the interim, it must be stable and probably wont 'turn" in the future.

HOWEVER, that doesn't mean/guarantee that future changes in storage/climate/conditions wont cause the coin to "turn".
