With all due respect, I think David Hall needs to spend a little more time in the grading room.

I do not believe the cameo/deep cameo standard has changed at all.

Anybody who submits proof and SMS coins regularly knows that things have tightened over the last six months. Same thing at NGC.

Russ: Obverse of the 1969-S Kennedy pictured in the linked thread looks like a lock CAM shot DCAM, but perhaps the reverse held the coin back from the CAM designation...

    Stuart,

I've seen many with lighter contrast grade cameo in the past. In any event, that's a single example which has little bearing on his blanket statement that encompasses thousands of coins and multiple submissions. I know the standards have changed because I've been submitting these regularly, and I've had many discussions with others who are seeing the same thing.

Have standards changed per se or are they seeing more submissions of these coins with the results that the graders have more experience dividing them into groups ie. cam dcam non-cam? Once prices hit a certain point for cam and dcams, there are more submissions by people taking a shot, and thus the graders can become more selective based upon the population of coins they are seeing.

Edited to add: It becomes a subconscious thing with the graders. They see a coin and say to themselves, well it has some cameo effect but I have seen better.

Have you seen any examples Russ of a coin cracked out of a CAM or DCAM PCGS slab come back with a lower designation?

Incomplete planchets wanted, especially Lincoln Cents & type coins.
