No Canadian Cent Posts In A While

I posted this coin on the Canadian site a while ago, so I apoligise to those who saw it there. A nice e-bay pickup. No MS-65 Red, but a very nice coin nonetheless with a very interesting triple punched nine. The blue lines are my mapping of the die cracks on this beauty.

Nice! Canadian large cents are wonderful.
  • I have all kinds of Canadian and provincial cents in my collection, but haven't bought anything new lately.

    Very nice one, bosox!

    Nice one Rob.

Here's one that I've had for many years. At first I thought it was a 9/8 but the diagnostics are wrong the loop is oval instead of round. The knob of the 9 is definately tripled and the arc to the upper right does not align with the arc to the upper left.

The scan isn't great, it was taken at 1200dpi and I had to play with the colors to show the details.

Gene - Is yours like the one on the right. If so, it's quite scarce. Maybe scarcer than a DP#1. The one on the right was erroneously attributed as a DP#2 by PCGS. The one on the left is a normal DP#2. - Rob

Definetly the one on the right. The knob has the same clevis look and the upper left of the loop has that clockwise spiked curve. What do you think ICCS would call it? 9/9/9 or 9/9/8? It is certainly not DP1 nor 2.

I don't know what ICCS would call it. Mine is still in a PCGS AU-55 holder as a DP#2. I posted this a couple of months ago on the Canadian site. The more knowledgable 1859 variety guys there said it's quite a bit scarcer than the #1. Definitely coins to keep as the 1859 varieties become more well known.

    Thanks Rob

Mine is raw EF40/45 with lots of neat die cracks. I've also got some with the other numerals recut. And some with recut letters of the legends too.

  • I've got about fifty of the early Canadian Cents, haven't looked at them in awhile. Guess it is time to pull them out of the box and see what is there.
