Proof Kennedys

These are the PCGS Proof Kennedys I've won on eBay and their prices (s&h included). Am I doing good paying these prices or am I paying too much? I'm trying to build a complete set of Proof Kennedy's, not necessarily the top grades but a complete set. With the exception of the 2002-S I think I'm doing ok but before I get too far down the road I thought I'd get some opnions.

1972-S PR68CAM - 12.67
1973-S PR69DCAM - 16.99
1976-S Clad PR69DCAM - 20.61
1980-S PR69DCAM - 15.40
1983-S PR69DCAM - 10.80
2002-S PR69DCAM - 29.80
2004-S PR69DCAM - 16.61

Thanks,
Millertime

You're doing fine. Just be sure to look closely at the coins and make sure they are the quality you plan on keeping in your set. Just because they're holdered doesn't mean they're what you expect them to be. Your approach to building a quality set is sound.

Those are good prices for the proof Kennedys. What's your goal? Do oyu just want a nice looking set, or are you looking to building a top 10 registry set? makes a BIG difference! At those prices, you are getting the coins for less than if you submitted them yourself to PCGS. You can "build" a set by actually buying a set from 1974 to date for about $600-$700 for the complete run in clad. The silver proofs from 1076-date will cost about the same. The cameo earlier halves can look really close to the DCAMs at a fraction of the cost. As an example, the 64 in 69 Cam is about $75, 68DCAM about $300-350 and a 69 DCAM over $1500. I would reccommend buying them already slabbed as you have an already "done" product. PCGS has been VERY harsh on grading lately as you can probably surmise from the boards. I started out 4 years ago with a goal of a completed set from circulation in a Whitman folder. Then, I saw uncirculated ones at my local dealer and bought a few. Then I saw PCGS slabbed ones, and started on E-bay. Then my goal was a complete MS and proof PCGS set. DONE! Now, I find myself looking for upgardes all the time. Upgrades are VERY expensive for the 70DCAMs and many of the MS 68's. If you want a top set, you might start early on the 70DCAMs while they are somewhat "cheap" at about $300 or less if you can find them. Good luck on your journey! Rayimage PS: Be aware that there are many whom will try to turn you to the darkside-the bald fat man instead! They are jealous because there are a LOT of proof Kennedy collectors in the PCGS registry.LOL

My goal for my registry sets (Kennedy Proof, Eisenhower circulation, State Quarters) is 100% complete with budget more of a concern than grade. Until I get to the harder years I really don't want to spend more than $20 each and I should be able to get a lot of them for $10. Most everything I've seen on eBay is DCAM but if the price is low I'll grab the CAM anyday. If the PCGS price guide is an indication of pop then I see about 3 that will be tough in DCAM for a cheap price. I might work on upgrading my set to 69DCAM but that's as far as I'll go.

  • Nice prices from what I have seen. I had to pay out a high price for 2002 as well, you should be able to get 2003 much more reasonably. PM for a good ebay seller where you can pick one up.

The 1972 in PR68 is sweet too, got any pics?

Are you collecting clad or silver or both?

I'll PM you for the seller. I don't have any pictures because I don't know if my camera has the macro lens or setting that will take decent pictures. I'm collecting both, here's my Registry Set. Millertime's Kennedy Collection
The 2002 was totally impulsive, I shouldn't have done it when I did. Oh well, at least I have it.
