Photography question: Anyone ever use warm cards to help with WB?

Just curious. I've been reading about the use of warm cards with digital cameras to trick the auto WB into warming up the colors. I thought this might help with pics of toning. Any ideas?

What camera are you using? And what is your setup (tripod, copy stand, etc)?

I have a Nikon D100, and I'm using a table tripod. I have two Daylight bulbs and one OTT lamp.

I haven't figured out how to manually adjust the white balance to bring out the natural color of copper.

    Any thoughts?

Let me take a look at the specs. It should have a metered white balance preset. I'll check it out and be right back.

OK, it does have a preset. You will need to read the manual on how to do this. Get a blank piece of white paper (the printer paper) and center it under the lens and follow the WB preset directions in the manual. Once you set it, the camera will automatically adjust the white balance. Be sure to image your coins on the piece of paper, and you should be all set.

You're welcome. I just went through this. My two Nikon Coolpix cameras have great auto WB, but the D70 doesn't. The only way the D70 will represent colors accurately under artificial light is with the preset WB.

Basically, the same advice I gave Doug. Look in your manual and see if you have a WB preset mode, then follow the directions using a piece of plain paper. If you have a copystand with a neutral gray baseboard, then you don't need to use a piece of paper.
