The guy that made this coin, made two of them along with 2-3 71-P's in 66 and a 76-P Type I in 66.
A pretty good order.
The Type I is much less rare than the Type II. Compare MS65 prices/pops. If this coin goes for $12,000, then the Type I 65's should be worth in the $2000-2500 neighborhood and they are not.
Guess we'll see, but my guess is way south of $10,000...maybe around 5-7000
Considering the POP is now (4) pcs on this coin. Also take in to account that a guy should know that if he doesn't win the coin in the Teletrade Auction he has 2 more chances. My guess is $8500.
Since the pop is 3 and two were made in this order, if reserve is high, I doubt the coin will be sold in Teletrade. If the coin will be sold in Teletrade, the price won't be too high since there is another one available to sell soon.
Didn't realize the pop, and that the same fellow made another. Even so, I can't see a price as low as $6,000. If so, I might get back in the set. I'd be with Grandam at $8,500 or so.
I'll probably bid $5,000 myself for it as it does look pretty good. This is a rare coin if a legit 66.
Dang!!!! With this coin being a POP 4 now & at $9,000 already,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I guess I sold my PCGS MS66 1972-P TY1 IKE TOO CHEAP when it was a POP1 coin for over 2 1/2 yrs until these (3) were just made!!!!!
WoW! it is sold $9600+juice. That's over $10.5K. Possibly the highest Ike dollar (business strike) ever sold in any auction. I bet next one is coming up soon.
I knew this coin would bring bucks !! I would not have been suprised if it had hit $ 12,000.00 with juice !!! A top set should bring $ 75,000.00 + Every show that I attend has more, and more Ike collectors. Also, most dealers have starting carrying Ikes at the shows.
I calculated some upper end retails for each of my top set Ikes, and came up with $115K. This includes a few PKOK's, and some fairly aggressive numbers on some super PQ coins. $100K is well within reach on the base set.
Through in the errors, and we could be talking $150K
Comparing sets in the top 5, we need to consider that each additional 67 clad, or 69 silver MS adds around $4000-5000 per.
If everyone is talking about adding PKOK and error coins to a top set, then the price might go as high as $ 160,000.00 !! Futhermore, I think that the 1972-P-Type # 2- MS66-PCGS would bring $ 15,000.00 + ( maybe as high as $ 18,000.00 ) Several people have made offers to buy in the $ 13,000.00 and $ 14,000.00 range. A small amount of bidding would drive the numbers even higher !!

$12,000. Looks like a nice coin. But not as good as your Type 2.

The money is about right, compared to the rarity and challenge !

I wish the Type 1's in MS65 were in that neighborhood! I sold one recently.

Did you expect to find any 71-P or 72-P Ike dollar in the mint set

It's crazy, but true!
I think I'm out at these levels. I'll wait until the next one comes on the market
My guess is the bid before juice gets to $10,000+

I just came back from Barbados, so i wasn't even involved.
WOW!!

You're correct on top price paid. I think only the 76 "no S" proofs have brought more.
I think when any of the top sets go on the block, that record will be shattered.
The 66 Type II should bring $15-17,500 in 66.
What's a full top two or three set worth???? $100K??? Maybe
