Superior's Pre-Long Beach Auction

Ok, doesn't it seem strange less than 2 weeks from the start of the auction that they haven't posted the online catalog yet?

They mailed out the real catalogs in the past 2 weeks. For what it's worth I was on line last weekend looking at lots in the upcoming sale. You must be not be at the right spot on the site.

I'm not sure you can view lots yet......there is a note on the page that says lots are not online yet.

I'm not sure either. Just know that I went through them before the catalog came to me. I recognized a number of the coins I had already pre-screened on line. Twilight Zone?

Roadrunner: are you thinking of Goldbergs?
  • They have them all on sale at overstock.com with no bids

I'm not sure but I'm not seeing the coins listed on Overstock.......I see coins listed but these are not the Long Beach coins. Maybe I'm missing something?

The catalogues are not out as far as I know...they are ALWAYS late with the web-site! And they should have an updating bid function as well. It seems to always show the same bids from beginning to end...

  • All I can say about Superior is that after nearly a month, 5 phone calls and several emails and they finally got my bill right. Nice coin though... image

Ok, roadrunner, give us your secret passage link. I can't find a way in.

It's posted. Among seated quarters, I see a couple duplicate coins from the ANR Frog Run catalog.
  • Just took a quick look. Who ever put the online catalog together must have done it in a hurry. LOTS of mistakes in posting pictures, color designations, etc. Also, is it just me or do they have many more low grade common coins, problem coins, and raw coins this time around??

TDN was right. I was thinking of Goldberg's. They will "always" be Superior to me. It will take more than a name for TAGZ or TIA to become Superior.

  • Any other observations about their offerings?
  • roadrunnerroadrunner Posts: 28,303 ✭✭✭✭✭
I looked at the offerings this morning and nearly gagged. I mean this is a major auction company, at least by name. I started with seated halves and most of them were common dates in circ. with a few uncs tossed in. There were a lot of $150 coins here. For collectors who want just circ type, this is one place to look. Other than a single pre-1836 bust half in NGC 65 there wasn't much there either. There was an NGC MS67 1838 RE half that I called up as it seemed out of place. It was not a particularly stunning coin for the high grade. My disappointment was high enough at this point that I didn't even bother looking at any other denominations.

image I think I won this item, $196 before the juice. Not sure though because I haven't received a confirmation email from Superior. I sent Superior an email asking if I won. Anyone else win something and have they sent you an email confirming you won? Thanks, Lee

I won a proof IHC but was out bid on an AU Barber Half. I have not received an email confirmation yet.
