Finally got my 57 Ted Williams card (and now a 57 Mays)

I know it's not a big deal around here but I finally got my 1957 #1 Ted Williams card - and I paid for it from the sales I have started doing on eBay. Couple of things about this card: 1) It is better centered than any other PSA 6 I have come across since last Summer and the corners are pretty good for the grade - the kicker is a perfect rubber-band notch on the right edge. It's so good that I can even tell what color rubber-band it was!; and 2) in looking at the stats on back (that's about the only reason for baseball cards, right?), I am still amazed at what he accomplished despite missing nearly 5 seasons (43-45, 52-53).

Edit: Sorry, it looks like the image has been deleted. I'll scan it in sometime.

Congrats Steve....the '57 Ted is a great card. And yes I too enjoy reading the backs of cards for the stats. I also enjoy the silly cartoons.

Very nice example of a 6 - I cracked my exmt Williams out of a holder (that old Canadian company, I forget their name) and it pales in comparison to yours. Excellent centering and eye appeal. Great card. Thanks for sharing.

Take a look at this 57 Mays I just got. I bought it off of eBay from a member here. It has one frayed corner and a small stain on back but otherwise, it is great card!

Great looking cards Steve ! I have just started this set in Ex-MT to NM raw this past week although I'm going to try to get the starts in PSA 6 or 7. Landed a 6 Eddie Mathews last night. Have fun collecting this set, it may be the best looking ever besides T3's & 53 Bowman color.

Thanks, Dave. Right now, my 1957 EXMT/PSA 6 set is 44% complete with about 46 of them graded (I have a Mantle/Berra, Clemente and Kaline in addition to the two above). After several months of thinking about it, I think I will go ahead and get my raws graded (it makes sense economically). I got 10 freebies coming soon but that won't help much on the 57s since it makes much more sense to use them for star cards (saving $15/card). When I started this set last year, it was in NM but then I analyzed what it would cost me for the star cards in PSA 7 and that was a bit much since I have 4 other sets I'm building. But as you can see, cards in EXMT or PSA 6 can look really good, you just have to not accept 75/25-80/20 centering. Now I have to figure out how to get a decently centered 57 Mantle in PSA 6 without it costing close to 4 figures...
