Question: Would an "off center" Wi upper leaf be worth more or less than a properly center

I have a few and one of my upper leaf Wisconsin quarters reverse is off center. The obverse is fine. The rim is almost gone at the top but real thick at the bottom.

Does or will this add or detract from the coin?

New to the error world.

Thanks

Dan

  • Not worth anything to me. But then I don't do moderns.
What you're describing is misaligned dies on the one piece.

I would like to see that. Do you have pictures?

  • Sorry about the quality of the picture but the only thing I have that will focus close in on a coin is the cheap web cam. The bottom of the rim is twice as thick as the top. Thinnest above the w in Wisconsin. I usually don't notice off centers unless it jumps out at you and this one did. Not sure of what grade the coin is but it looks almost spotless other than the rim. I will keep trying on a better picture.

    Thanks

Your picture is linked to the hard drive, so we can't see it. That said, what you have is a misaligned die (from what I read)... those are common and carry no premium for regular coins, and likely no premium/penalty on the upper leaf coin.

That said, if the coin were a real off-center, it would probably go up in value, as those are incredibly hard to find now that the mint stepped up its quality control--even if there were no variety, it would be valuable.

  • Thanks for the info. I will figure out how to ad a picture here eventually.
