which grading company to use on the following?

I am thinking about getting some of my cards graded. These cards are for a personal collection, I'm not looking to sell them right now. I have a 1952 Topps Mantle, 1952 Topps Mathews, 1958-59 Bobby Hull, 1951-52 Gordie Howe, and a 1955-56 Jacques Plante. I am basically looking for the best authenticating grading service. I don't care about the grade as much as the authenticating. Would you use PSA, SGC, GAI, or BVG and why?

PSA... much better long-term value, trusted authenticators.

Got a scan of the 52 Mantle?
  • i would love to see the mathews!
  • I'll try to get scans up later today when I get home from work. Thanks.

Is PSA good for grading vintage hockey cards too?

i wouldnt go with BVG...not enough experience.

ANY of the 3 big ones would do fine

PSA would probably bring the highest amount in case you decide to collect something else or you suddenly need the money for any reason.

Personally I only go with SGC and PSA. SGC for my own collection because I think the holders are much nicer. SGC and PSA grade fairly close in comparison. From my experience I believe SGC grades a bit tougher than PSA but others will be quick to say that PSA grades tougher then SGC. I don't hold GAI or Beckett very highly. They're not horrible but I don't think they come close to PSA's and SGC's expertise.

Compare and choose which holder you like better pretty much. I like SGC for the black around the card. It really makes the card stand out.

Can you scan in your Plante RC and Howe RC? I would love to see them.

  • Hard to argue with the holder....SGC and GAI, both have nicer holders than PSA. I love the GAI holder if your storing the cards straight up and down. They have a label on top so you can read it without removing the slab from your storage box.

Based solely on that, SGC .
