The colours look different. Of course, the seller's picture was taken before slabbing. You know, I think that if Phil had the time and chance to photograph several times the same coins, especially the toned ones, he would have produced very different and interesting results.

  • yes i think dimitri is aware of that. but we did smash a few slabs.
  • Not enough of them Phil, not enough. Although I wouldn't do this for fun anymore, or for better photos only, there were various coins that will be resubmitted, and therefore could have been smashed, as it is my impression that NGC grades higher than what Anacs used to grade a few years ago when these coins were slabbed. At least the ones meant for sale. Out of around 10 ANACS coins I have sold so far, before you arrived, 70% of them gained a point or two, the rest simply kept the previous grade, none lower, when they were resubmitted by the new owners. A very rare 1845 2L MS60 BRN, with nice blue toning, was wrongly BBed the first time, then the buyer resubmitted it and came back as MS62 BN. This particular one in the photo,is in an NGC MS64 slab though and will not be sold.

Wow. I was searching for the last syraq post when I came upon this one.

The SYRACUSIAN returns. I had to check the date to be sure this wasn't a resuscitated thread!
