My only issue is what the password thing does, and how you use it....They should have something whereby you enter your membership number for whatever online benfits they're offering.
Well, the password thing is just the way it goes these days. The site is better, no question. But I would love to see them accept some feedback on improving it even further.
The new ANA website is the result of a monumental effort that is part of a greater project to modernize the ANA's computer sysem and database. For those who don't know, the ANA had been storing its data on the same off-site, mainframe system for the past twenty years or so. As a result, modern software like Windows, Word, Excel and the like were not to be found on the ANA network. The database and programs were all written in proprietary language, as were the 6000 web pages comprising the old website.
The conversion has been underway for the past year and has proved to be a herculean task. The new database was activated last Fall, and while we were hoping to get the website converted a little sooner, we are grateful to see it up now. Looking back at all the pieces that it took to make up the whole, the in-house staff and website design firm that have been involved in the project are to be commended that it's up as quickly as this.
Actually, it's not OFFICIALLY up... yes, it's there and you can find it, but because of the expected transitional glitcsches (which do exist), it's not being trumpeted yet. A good website is always a "work in progress," and please understand that there are people working frantically to bring the site up to the world-class standard that the board mandated. Once the platform is functionally sound, the effort will shift to adding current information and educational data. Some features and info will be available to any interested surfer... the balance, as some of you speculated, will be password protected in a "members only" section, a benefit of ANA membership. I would expect the information concerning passwords to be disseminated in the next couple of months.
Now, to the comments, "I would have done some things differently" and "They didn't consult me..." Well, I would have done somethings differently, too, and they didn't consult me either. That said, I think we can all agree that the new site is a marked improvement and this is just the beginning. Someone mentioned feedback... if you have a comment or suggestion, you can e-mail me (will@peakcoins.com) and while I make no promises on action, if it makes sense, it will be heard.
