It's fun seeing and reading everyone's interests, but my interests haven't changed. I collect the same coins I collected as a kid.

It has given me a taste for more expensive coins, but I try to contain that a bit.

It makes me feel like I can still be active in coins even when I can't add to my collection because everything that's nice and would fit well in my collection is going for moon money these days.

Would that be a "taste" or a "coercion?"

Like teaching cannibals to like bananas. Beautifully toned, MONSTER bananas. SLABBED bananas. MORE bananas than YOU have, neener neener. The finest KNOWN bananas.

It has added years of cumulative wisdom about numismatics that I have been able to learn without making the mistakes myself. Mostly, I am just shocked that with so many die hard collectors that there are so many here who are blind to the wonders of the Barber series. image

  • I probally would not still be collecting if it wasn't for this forum...

My choice isn't there. The forum has really influenced me to buy quality coins and not many of them. Right now my collection is 40 coins and a bunch of coins I'm going to be selling. Once that's done, then I'll figure it out from there.
  • It has definitely expanded my range of interests.

Agreed. A new appreciation for silver coins and the people who collect them.

Also, given the significant number of frauds exposed here, it's turned me off to toning. Unless I see a PCGS, NGC or ANACS slab, the skeptic in me starts from the assumption that an unslabbed PQ toner is artificially toned until I am satisfied to the contrary.

    Tyler,

Mum's the word, on the barber series. It's tough enough finding nice barber coins, although an influx of new barber collectors, could potentially increase the value of my better date barber coins. Nah, skip that point, I like it much better with just a few of us Barber fanatics out there.

I value it most for the people and their humor, the coin stuff is secondary but informative. I deal with my customers all day in my business, but we talk about their lives, and it's nice to chat here about what interests me. I don't talk about coins, for safety and boredom reasons, and everyone thinks I'm strictly interested in golf and fishing. Little do they know that I'm looking to buy that just-right monster morgan with the money they give me. Teehee image

On the positive side, I've met a bunch of good people - including a number of dealers - who specialize in areas other than mine and who I therefore doubt I'd ever have met otherwise.

Looks like I'm in the majority for a change.

The forum does not influence my buying habits.
It's just a nice fun place to visit with other folks.

  • Because of other people on this forum, I have become interested in AH Kennedy's. I think everyone knows who I'm talking about.
