Anyone familiar with Saxony porcelain coin values?

I think these fall in the "Notgeld" category. All I have found is a couple of greed-bay listings. No mention of them in four different editions of Krause. Any help would be greatly appreciated as to value or identification.

They are not listed in Krause.

Coffing (sp) put out a catalog on German Notgeld money. Your pieces are a 1 mark and a 20 pfennig 1921 from Saxony made by the Meissen Porcelain Works (crossed swords mint mark). I believe there are 7 pieces to the set. The 2 largest have gold gilt edges. There is also a fitted case for the set. Set and tokens should fetch about $100 - $200.

I'm told that there are white porcelain examples, too.

Check out GermanCoins.com and Karl Stephens sites for more.

  • Try Joel's Coins Notgeld list. There are a couple listed about a quarter way down the page that may match.

Essentially, they're tokens, and Krause really doesn't address tokens. I find Coffing's book to be of limited use. A good English-language reference on Notgeld coins is Richard Upton's Emergency Coins of Germany (Metal and Porcelain) 1914-1923. The standard German work is Peter Menzel's Deutsche Notmünzen und sonstige Geldersatzmarken, 1840-1990.
