    The biggest one they have!

  • 5 by 10. I used to have a 10 x 10, but I sold all the bullion.

  • Yep, biggest one, and might have to get the one next to it, last big one left. Dam slabs take too much room.

Did you say box, as in a single one ???image
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"
  • Mine holds 6 PCGS boxes on their sides for a total of 120 slabs. The NGC boxes don't fit. There are two larger boxes in the room but the waiting list for those is unreal. People have waited over 15 years for them.

Next to the biggest one they have. Lots of empty space in there.image

I just upgraded from the smallest to the next size up this AM. I think its 5 "tall by 10" wide.

I'd like the next size up, but I'm not confident one will become available during my lifetime.

I use the smallest one my bank has because I get it for free.

    it's about 5" x 6" and about 2-2.5 feet long.

The largest one available was a 5" x 5". Holds about 100 slabs loose if you pack 'em right.

Whats great about the 5" wide ones is you can fit two rows of slabs piled 5 high in them and just keep sliding them back.

    Mine's medium sixed....about 5" x 10" x 24" (or very close to those dimensions).
  • Mine is too small, I would estimate 5" by 2.5 ft. long. I am going to the largest they have very soon.

  • This is going to sound funny but mine is 10ft x 8ft x 8ft. No, not a prison cell. Yeah, I wish I had my own personal vault.image

I used to waste money on those. Finally used the same money to buy a home safe as big as needed.

Seems like a waste of money, in some sense, if the coins are insured and you're not particularly attached to the ones you have.

But if you want to take a chance of a home invasion robbery at gunpoint if someone finds out you have coins there (or sees a safe during a previous burglary) -- go right ahead.

If all I had to worry about was burglary while I wasn't home, since my coins are insured I'd probably not bother with a box. But in the real world, there's more than a loss of the coins (and a check from the insurance company) at stake

The biggest one in my bank could be used by a kid as a playhouse...it's the size of a very large TV box!!

  • What do the larger boxes run per year? $150-$200 or so? I've never inquired at my local branch.

I used to waste money on those.

Hardly. Cheapest protection you can buy. Home safes are nice and will prevent mundane theft attempts, but a determined intruder will easily defeat run-of-the-mill home safes.

I don't see it as a waste of money. I feel it's wise to have both.
High end stuff needs to be in the bank. Less valuable items still need the protection of a safe.
It's nice to have a safe place to keep items before they make it to the bank.

You're right, the slabs take up too much room. I have six 10x10x30" boxes.

  • I used to have to wear a hernia belt, when I went to the bank for my safety deposit box, but have since downsized my collection considerably. I still have the same 10 X 10 box, but it's alot lighter.
  • 10 x 10 plenty of room in there though. I just got tired of trying to pack and re-pack my stuff in the smaller box to get it to fit.

The biggest they have. Enough to fit six PCGS blue boxes and maybe ten lose slabs. Almost time for an additional one!
