Here ya go! Unopened 1955 proof sets. Flat. By the bushel

Coin Vault has "the Minnesota Hoard" and just showed the opening of a box of 500 and are opening a few of them right now.
Not sure of the total number in this "hoard" but it would be cool to open them image

NOT for $350 each though image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Yeah, but the extra helps pay for them putting the entire, unopened, set into a sealed plastic baggie (like a sandwich bag) and putting on a "Minnesota Hoard" sticker.
Then, they showed the $150 1956 sealed sets and then the 1954 proof boxes, still sealed, that were $500 I think (I could be wrong on that...could be a little less).

I saw them open one of the sets and it had a cameo Franklin half in it.
  • That '54 proof set is 399.95. 5 payments of 79.99 on stretchpay. Recovered in a hoard from Minnesota, this 1954 proof set is unopened. Comes in a sealed box. Item is unreturnable if opened. Now, all bs aside image suppose you get a frankie in this set that grades pf67dcam???? cha ching! and it has colors? CHA CHING. In that context, the $400 pricetag seems minor. Thats how they push the sets. If it didn't work, they wouldn't still be on the tube wasting all those 2,3, and 4 hour time slots.

Or, what if you open it and find a hazing corroded POS!

Had to be a shill set ...

  • fcloud Thats the gamble we take on unopened, sealed up mint products! Man thats half the fun! Win or lose? Whats it gonna be? I'm not defending the coin vault, by any means. I think they rip a lot of people off.
Your chances of finding gem cameo proofs in these older sets are better with unsearched sets tho. Most of the really nice sets have been broken up and slabbed already.

extremes, forget about extremes. let's assume it's just average and yields the usual PR65 coins. probably still not worth the price, but if the set is still sealed it could probably be sold by one of us...................here or at eBay.....................for a higher, profitable price.......................and receive no scornful replies......................very strange.

My exact thought when I seen this. Flash 1 nice set and bang, another sellout, with them laughing all the way to the bank.

Just beause they are unopened now, doesn't mean they were sealed by the mint. There is a chance that years ago the coins were looked through and then sealed. I have had set seal by themselves. Where I live it is very humid, so the moisture in the air along with some pressure from being jambed into a box is enough to seal or reseal envelopes. I didn't see the show, and I am not saying they are doing anything wrong, but I doubt the history of where these sets were for the last 50 years.

A set could be mint sealed, or a set that is not sealed could have the gum activated and sealed at a later date. Caveat emptor.

Good point, maybe its a jealousy thing. We would all love to pull down the money they make on their sales.
Right, wrong, or indifferent, they've been around awhile. And I'm sure they have some very loyal customers
who would scream foul if they seen some of the comments made here.

I was actually thinking the same thing about what you said before I posted my first post to this thread but I wasn't sure. You guys are right it must of been shill set to make the sets look like they had cameo franklin halfs in them. That's Coin Vaults evil ways of selling over priced coins.
