Personally, I prefer Nikon products. I just had to buy a D70 for a contract I'm working on. Have you used a DSLR camera before? There's a pretty steep learning curve with them that I'm still working on.

One adage I heard before I bought my first digital camera made sense. That is, go with the name brands known for good film camera optics.

I also have a Nikon D70...but as I have learned from this forum...you can take great pictures without an SLR. I chose my camera to take pictures of coins and my kids who are heavily into sports. for action photos it is great and because it is a digital SLR I can use a different lens to take close ups of my coins.

I wanted to get a D70, but my wallet had other ideas.
So, I bought an Olympus C-5060. It is a great camera for half the price.

Check it out...C-5060 on the Olympus Website

Here's a Mercury dime I just shot with the D70. Keep in mind I have a ways to go to fully figure this camera out.

Yeah, try to have someone around tomorrow. I have a sneaking suspicion that it will show up.

I usually get even first class from that area in two days. So with priority, it's almost guaranteed. Of course, now I said that, it won't turn up until Monday.
  • If you can go to a major camera shop in the area, take some coins in and see what they do before you buy one. I did this and found it very helpful in my decision. I took a few slabs in and tried a bunch of different cameras.

here's my contribution to the D70 promotion, another Mercury. The D70 is expensive, not just camera and lens, but you need a heavyweight copystand to hold the thing, It's big and heavy. It will reward the obsessive photographer when used right.

Cool, it's a hard camera to learn, the image I posted above was after about 320 test shots, so be ready for a lot of practice.

Right now if you buy the kit (the camera body and the 18-70mm lens) there is a $200 rebate. I bought mine from B&H photo for $1179, or $979 after rebate. Be very wary of the cheapest online sellers, these can be refurbs or gray market cameras with no rebate and/or no USA warranties.
  • Nice pics, fellowsimage
