Registry Set???

Hi all, From what I have seen of the Registry sets. I would think it's not worth the time and trouble to register a set like I am working on in 64, am I right?? Most of the sets I have seen are all 65 and higher.

Thanks Tony

There are lots of reasons to register the set. It is a way to show your set to a larger group than you could ever do in public. Displaying pictures is key to really being in the spirit of the registry. Collectors of similar interests tend to connect from the registry. That then is a good source for buying and selling coins. It's not all about the grade.

  • I agree with badger. It doesn't matter if your top ten, five or whatever. Unless is matters to you. If you are proud of your set, then register it and show it off. It doesn't matter if we like your coins, it only matters that you like them!!
  • Hi, ZK and Badger, Yes I like them. Briefly what's involved in registration? Do I have to take photos? Since I am pretty PC illiterate that's a problem. Does the set have to be complete?

    Thanks TP
  • I am just as proud of my sets that have high grades as I am with lower grades. If you're interested in continuing your set, then put it on the Registry, you'll find many friends that share the same interest. It's also a great place to buy a coin well below wholesale etc.

Another major advantage of the registry sets is that they are GREAT on-line inventories. For instance, I find it tough to remember what coins/in what grade I have in, say, my Merc. But all I have to do is to look at my registry set and presto: I can see what I own!

Re your grades: WHO CARES??? The sets are supposed to be fun. My sets will never be #1 but so what? I enjoy them and I enjoy all the sets I look at that have pictures. I am trying to acquire the skills to take and post pictures. But, so far it's no go for me... sigh.

By all means register your set. It's free and can be fun. And, by the way, what are you collecting, you loser collector of low-grade coins? ( image!!!!!)

    Welcome... image

I agree with all of these guys.

When I started my first set, I think I was ranked around 110 out of almost 200. image
Then, as I worked on adding more sets, and upgrading them, with time, I stated working on getting to the first page of the listing.
Then to the top ten, and finally, as time went by, and funds came easier, I started shooting for the top 5.
I am now very close to reaching that goal in many of my sets, and indeed, I have made it all the way to #1 in a couple.
But, I am very happy to have some of my sets sitting in the shadow of even better sets, as it gives me even more incentive to keep collecting and striving for improvement.

This, however, is my way. It does not have to be yours.

Currently, I find it growing harder to make much improvement to any of my sets, because the coins I need are either simply not very easy to find, or way out of my budget.

So, I start working on other, less expensive collections, which with time, will also get to that point.

    And so on...And so on...

The point I'm trying to make is, ENJOY, SHARE, SHOW your sets. That is what the Registry is all about.
Then, if you are into it, COMPETE with your peers.

It's all in the name of FUN...At least, it's supposed to be!

  • Hi tonphil, and welcome to the boards. Do you like your coins? If so, you will find an audience here that likes em too. Are you proud of your collection? If so, show em off. There are a lot of reasons to join the regestry. The thing is, its the coins that are important. We all love em!! If you have the means to take pictures of your set, hell, show em off!! I'm pretty new here, but I have found a lot of new freinds. You got questions about your coins? Ask. You will find a lot of answers here. After time you will find collecting a lot more enjoyabe, and you WILL learn things here that could take you years thru other means (not to meantion $) Oh yeah, you got thick skin? If not you may want to get some. image It not to hard to get flamed around here image.

Welcome aboard and there is nothing wrong with MS64's. Thats were a lot of my Franklin set is at. There are some coins that get really costly above that grade so get what you like and can afford. This is just a extension of the collection book to the computer age.
