Old Baseball Card Catalogs and Publications

Does anybody have any? I'm not talking about the 1980's either. I do have some of those. I'm talking about the 70's, the 60's, or even the 50's (if they go back that far). I think it would be neat to see some of those prices. Maybe $5.00 for a 52 Topps Mantle, or $25 for the whole set!

The library near my house used to have a 1979 baseball card price guide, and several 70s Overstreet comics price guides. Really, really frustrating.

I remember reading somewherthat when the first price guide for baseball cards came out the 52T set was very cheap, but the Honus wagner was worth $50 even then. lol
  • My 2nd edition of "The Sports Collectors Bible" (1977), which I bought new back then, has the 1952 Topps cards ranging from .60-$10, with the
antle, Dickey, Campy, Mathews and Robnison listed in the $75-$125 range. No price for the complete set. Those were the days! Only if I'd known then................sigh. Of course, I was only 14.

  • Can you find those Card Collector's price guides on Ebay? I just purchased a couple of Trader Speaks from the early '70s, but would really like to have something older. There's much enjoyment in reading old hobby literature.

I got this particular Catalog with an order. I started buying cards by the pack in 57. In 63 I started buying them in a series from the Card Collector's Company. I did that until whatever year they started selling whole sets. I think Woody Gelman owned it then . I think Larry Fritsch bought it out a few years back.

The Catalog is 10 pages and I would be happy to mail or fax you a copy. We could try placing orders.

  • That's very nice of you. I remember seeing various Gelman and Galasso ads, if I only knew. Please turn on your PM feature so I can send you my address. Thanks.
